Why measure pixels instead of characters?

Google truncates titles and descriptions by display width, not character count. A title full of wide letters like W and M gets cut sooner than one with narrow letters. This tool measures width the same way a browser renders text.

    What are the length limits?

Desktop titles are usually truncated around 580 pixels and descriptions around 920 pixels. These are approximations — Google can rewrite or shorten snippets at any time.

Does Google always use my meta description?

No. Google may show text from your page if it thinks it matches the search better. A clear, accurate description still gives you the best chance of controlling the snippet.
